Hope brings up a very interesting point concerning Keats's resentment of the Nightingale. Before reading Hope's snip, I only noticed the jealousy that Keats felt towards the Nightingale; however, jealousy and resentment are very different. There is a duality underlying Keats's feelings. He clearly envies the bird's happiness, beauty, and magnificence, but Keats does not stop there. He gives the audience a glimpse into his own psyche and explains why. Hope highlights this in her snip; the Nightingale reminds Keats of "his own miserable state."
