In his poem Ode to Psyche, John Keats highlights the wind as having a regenerating effect on the mind and soul. As he describes the ?new thoughts? in the ?untrodden region of his mind,? Keats references the wind as an element which influences new ideas; they ?murmur in the wind.? The wind seems to serve a similar purpose in Mary Tighe?s Psyche; or, The Legend of Love. After lamenting the ?sad changes of her fate,? the >>wind seems to regenerate her soul and being: ?how refreshing seemed the breathing wind.? It restores her to a previous state of beauty and magnificence. The wind?s power over the mind and body in both poems is not a coincidence. The wind is omnipresent, mighty force that makes individuals feel alive. In these two cases, the wind clearly has an effect on both the mind and body.
